Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Dentistry organized a "2024-2025 Academic Year White Coat Ceremony" for students who have just started the faculty this year. The ceremony started with a stance of respect and the National Anthem. After IGU Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin and Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Mahir Günday's opening speech, the students who had just started the faculty put on their white coats.
"I sincerely believe that you will perform services for the benefit of society with the responsibility of this sublime profession"
IGU Rector started his speech by congratulating the students who have just started the faculty. Prof. Bahri Şahin said, “In addition to our 140 students who placed in the Turkish program of our faculty, 70 Turkish and 70 international, this year, 21 students started the newly opened English program of the Faculty of Dentistry. With this innovation, our Faculty of Dentistry is developing day by day and reaching the level we want. We want our Faculty of Dentistry to become a more prestigious faculty day by day. In this regard, our faculty continues its development without interruption. As a result of our academic excellence, innovative education approach and value-added projects, our university has made great strides in recent years. We were among the few universities in THE Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which was recently published, and took place in the 1001-1200 ranking. The fact that we rank 13th among Turkish universities and 8th among foundation universities is a result of our efforts and dedication together. Our Faculty of Dentistry continues to develop in parallel with the development in our university. Prof. Bahri Şahin concluded his words by saying; I sincerely believe that you will always progress in the light of science with your white coats that you will wear today as the beginning of the journey; that you will carry out services for the benefit of the society with the responsibility of this sublime profession with modern and universal knowledge."
"Your children are entrusted to us!"
After Istanbul Gelisim University Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin's speech, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Mahir Günday stated, “Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Dentistry accepted 5th semester students this year. I congratulate our new students. At the end of your 5-year education, you will be a dentist. Dentistry is a difficult education. You need to work hard and succeed. When you graduate as a dentist, you will be in a great competition. You should strive to educate yourself as a better dentist and graduate from here as a successful dentist. We have a total of 36 faculty members in our academic staff, 11 of whom are professors. With our strong training staff, we have the knowledge, equipment and infrastructure to ensure that you are brought up in the best way possible. Your job is to be successful. You have a sacred profession where people consult you painfully and you relieve their pain and find solutions. You should strive to learn this profession in the best way here. When you wear this white coat, remember the responsibilities it entails. I would like to say to our parents; your children are entrusted to us. At the end of 5 years, we will send all of them to home as a dentist. I wish you all success.''
